چکیده

The greatest failure rate of reforestation programs is basically related to water deficit, especially at the seedling stage. Therefore, main objective this work investigate responses three accessions carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua L.) with 2-year-old from different climate regions drought generated by four treatments: Tc (250 mm), T1 (180 T2 (100 and T3 (50 mm). first accession (A1) comes protected national park Ichkeul in northern Tunisia. This zone belongs bioclimatic sub-humid second (A2) Melloulech, located center-east Tunisia, belonging semi-arid third (A3) mountain Matmata, south hyper-arid experiment was undertaken a greenhouse. Gaz exchange indices (net photosynthesis (A), stomatal conductance (gs), transpiration (E), internal CO2 concentration (Ci)) were determined. Predawn (Ψpd) midday (Ψmd) leaf potentials, relative soil content (SWC), morphological parameters (plant height (H), number leaves (NL), leaflets (Nl), branches (NB)) estimated. results showed that significant differences (P<0.001) found between physiological each accession. highest growth potential recorded for treatment both A1 A2. Significant decreases gs, E, Ci, SWC increases stress applied T3. Positive correlations Ψpd all studied accessions. Ψmd decreased as increased, ranging −0.96 −1.50 MPa sunrise −1.94 −2.83 midday, respectively, under control treatments. C. responded through exhibiting changes their behavior. Both A2 greater tolerance than A3. These seedlings exhibit adaptive mechanisms such avoidance, which are aimed reducing transpiration, limiting growth, increasing root exploit more water. can be recommended ecological restoration Mediterranean ecosystems.

Morphological and physiological responses of two common bean cultivars to drought stress

Drought stress is the major problem in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Investigating the response of different cultivars of crop plants to drought stress can help to select the tolerant ones for agriculture in arid lands. In this study, a greenhouse experiment was conducted as a factorial experiment based on completely randomized design with two common bean cultivars (Phaseolus vulgari...

Physiological and Morphological Responses of Almond Cultivars under In Vitro Drought Stress

In this study, physiological and morphological responses of five almond cultivars to drought stress were investigated under in vitro conditions. Plantlets from five commercial almond cultivars (Supernova’, ‘Tuono’, ‘Sahand’, ‘Ferragnes ’ and ‘Shahroud 21’] were established in MS medium containing 0.5 mg per liter BAP and then subcultured  in MS proliferation medium containing 1 mg per liter BAP...

Study of morphological and physiological response of red root pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) to drought stress

Redroot pigweed (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) is a noxious and cosmopolitan weed that is widely distributed in different parts of the world and competes severely with crops and reduces their growth and yield. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of drought stress on some morphological and physiological characteristics of redroot pigweed in 2018 and 2019. Treatments included d...

Morphological and molecular responses of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) lines to drought stress

Drought stress is a serious adverse factor limiting growth and productivity of sunflower. Evaluation of defense systems is important for producing resistant cultivars. In this study, some agro-morphological and molecular characteristics of six sunflower lines were evaluated under normal and irrigation at 40 and 60% of field capacity in randomized complete block design (RCBD). The results showed...

Physiological and morphological responses of rice (Oryza sativa L.) to varying water stress management strategies

Sustainability of rice production under limited water conditions is threatened by increasing irrigation water scarcity. Therefore, physiological and morphological responses of rice to varying water stress management strategies should be determined. The physiological and morphological responses of a semi dwarf rice (Hashemi cultivar) to water stress intensities (mild and severe, i.e., short-dura...
